CS:GO Tournament: PGL Major Stockholm 2021

The first Major CS:GO event this year will take place in the capital of Sweden: 24 lineups will compete for the $2 000 000 prize pool and tournament circuit points. CS:GO fans were waiting for this Major Championship for more than two years. The last event in Rio de Janeiro was canceled in 2020 due to covid restrictions. This is the second time when the Romanian organizer PGL will provide the show — the first Major PGL tournament was in Krakow, 2017.   The world's largest spherical building, Avicii Arena in Stockholm, will be a venue for The New Champions Stage. PGL Major Stockholm 2021 will be held from October 26th to November 7th, 2021. The dates by stages: The New Challenger Stage: October 26th - 29th, 2021 The New Legends Stage: October 30th - November 2nd, 2021 The New Champions Stage: November 4th - 7th, 2021. All participating teams are divided into three groups due to previous results in the Regional Major Rankings: Contenders, Challengers, and Legends. Contenders: Copenhagen Flames FaZe Clan GODSENT Virtus.pro Entropiq Sharks Esports TYLOO Renegades Challengers: Astralis ENCE BIG Movistar Riders Heroic MOUZ paiN Gaming Team Spirit Legends: Ninjas in Pyjamas Team Vitality G2 Esports FURIA Esports Team Liquid Evil Geniuses Natus Vincere Gambit Esports. PGL Major Stockholm 2021 follows the format endorsed by Valve in 2018 for every CS:GO Major Championship. The tournament will have three main stages. Sixteen teams from Contenders and Challengers groups will compete in The New Challengers Stage in Swiss System Format from October 26th to October 29th. Elimination and Advancement matches are Bo3, and all others are Bo1. Teams, who will take the first 8 places, will proceed to the next stage — The New Legends Stage. The losing teams will be eliminated from the tournament. The New Legends Stage will take place from October 30th to November 2nd, also in Swiss System Format with Bo3 Elimination and Advancement matches, others — Bo1. The top 8 teams will proceed to the New Champions Stage, bottom teams will be eliminated. The New Champions Stage will be an offline event at Avicii Arena from November 4th to November 7th with a Single-Elimination bracket. The Quarterfinals and semi-finals will be Bo3 matches, the Grand Finals format is still unknown.  The prize pool is the biggest among all CS:GO Major tournaments of the previous years. The last CS:GO tournament of this scale had a prize pool twice as small as this year's prize — $2 000 000. Besides the money prize, the teams, who will take 1-17th places will get Pro Tour Tournament Circuit Points, and for 1-8th places — the additional BLAST Premier points. The winner will be automatically qualified for the BLAST Premier World Final. The sixteenth Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major Championship is the first and only CS:GO event this year, which allows the live viewers to attend a venue, with mandatory compliance with safety and health conditions.
