The first day of WePlay! Artifact Mighty Triad: Strength had lots and lots of fantastic games. The players in Groups A and Group B delivered a great spectacle with many unexpected results and completely new play styles.
Let’s take a closer look at the matches to see who will go to the playoffs and how they managed to do it.
Group A
Adrian "Lifecoach" Koy vs. Raffael "GameKing" Iciren
In the opening match of the tournament, the Austrian and the German were very evenly matched. Stunning combos by Lifecoach and high tempo from GameKing delivered a nail-biting series. Adrian pulled a rabbit out of his hat at the end, winning the series 2:1.
Cong "StrifeCro" Shu vs. Mark "Petrify" Fittipaldi
In this game, StrifeCro was dominating over Petrify with a horde of creeps. The games looked really depressive if you are a fan of Petrify. The creep spamming decks might become very meta in the nearest future.
Raffael "GameKing" Iciren vs. Mark "Petrify" Fittipaldi
Petrify was the first person to leave the tournament. He couldn’t cope with the more experienced player GameKing and lost 2:0. We wish Mark the best of luck and to come back for another tournament.
Adrian "Lifecoach" Koy vs. Cong "StrifeCro" Shu
This was arguably the most action-packed battle of the day. Both players have their own armies of fans who were rooting for the favorite player, which made the series even more exciting. Fortune favored StrifeCro this time around and the German was kicked to the decider match. Congratulations to StrifeCro on his stunning performance.
Adrian "Lifecoach" Koy vs. Raffael "GameKing" Iciren
When rematches happen in GSL, the tournament that invented the “GSL group format” statistically the player who lost the first encounter has an advantage. In the first group of the first Artifact tournament the stats didn’t work out and Lifecoach beat GameKing for the second time in a row.
Group B
Stanislav "LuckBox" Cifka vs. Joel "Heffaklumpen" Larsson
The Swedish player snatched a victory from the Czech in a very intense battle. The series ended in 2:1 score and Heffaklumpen went to the winners’ match.
Pavel "Pavel" Beltukov vs. Sebastian "Xixo" Bentert
The young competitor Pavel couldn’t defeat the more experienced TCG veteran Xixo and the match ended in a clean 2:0.
Joel "Heffaklumpen" Larsson vs. Sebastian "Xixo" Bentert
The series was filled with mind games and tempo battles. Heffaklumpen won the first match but Xixo adapted to the opponent and won the best of three.
Pavel "Pavel" Beltukov vs. Stanislav "LuckBox" Cifka
The deck LuckBox brought to the tournament carried him to victory against Pavel. Unfortunately, the Russian prodigy leaves the tournament without a single victory.
Stanislav "LuckBox" Cifka vs. Joel "Heffaklumpen" Larsson
This time the rematch between 2 opponents in a GSL group ended in a victory of the contestant who lost the first series. LuckBox won the decider 2:0 and survived group B.
