Xixo vs. Teddy
Xixo has brought an interesting type of Red-Green ramp deck with Beastmaster and Lycan. The 15 creep cards, two copies of Spring the Trap and Beastmaster’s active ability will help to populate the boards across all three lanes, while Xixo brings his combo pieces together. The Black-Red aggro deck sports Disciple of Nevermore (x2) and The Oath (x2) to finish the game as soon as possible, although it requires a lot of luck to work out.
Teddy brought a 42-card Mono-Blue deck with a standard roster of heroes. He cut out Conflagration and decided that one copy of Diabolic Revelation was enough. The Black-Blue gold rush deck sports three copies of both Vesture of the Tyrant and Horn of the Alpha each. We saw some exciting Horn of the Alpha discards yesterday from DrHippi, and this deck could deliver the same thing.
This matchup includes a lot of RNG rolls that can impact the outcome of the games but we give a slight advantage to Teddy. A lot will rely on his ability to pilot the Mono-Blue.
Xixo (1) > Teddy (2)
Luminous vs. Stormlike
Luminous decided to bring a Red-Black aggro deck without the all-in tools like Disciple of Nevermore and The Oath. He also uses only two copies of Time of Triumph and Spring the Trap each.
He also brought a unique (for this tournament) Blue-Green ramp deck. It sports two copies of Incarnation of Selemene, three copies of Unearthed Secrets and Drow Ranger to Gust and buff the Allies. Damocles Bolt is replaced with Emissary of the Quorum (x3) for a strong ramp target.
Luminous knows that his deck is unusual and hopes it will work as intended.
Stormlike is another MT:A competitor with unusual deck choices. His Red-Black deck features such tools as Lodestone Demolition (x2) and Trebuchets (x3). This roster doesn’t have late-game options and peaks on mana turn seven but it has very interesting ways to deal tower damage.
The Red-Green deck features Thunderhide Alpha (x3) as the late game tool instead of the standard Emissary of the Quorum. This choice seems smart in the current meta where players neglect Slay. Stormlike also decided to use Omniknkight as the second Green hero who could help if he plays the dinosaurs against a deck with Annihilation (which Luminous runs).
We give a slight advantage to Luminous in this matchup though Stormlike has means to swing the advantage to his favour.
Luminous (2) > Stormlike (1)
Predictions for the rest of the group
Teddy (2) > Luminous (0)
Xixo (1) > Stormlike (2)
Stormlike (1) > Luminous (2)
