Valve has released a statement regarding the current and upcoming DPC season, as well as Dota TV and streamers.
Dota 2 community was arguing about the game's professional scene state, the updates, the teams and etc. for the past month. COVID pandemic went hard for all esports fans, and with Valve dragging any news regarding the new season, most people started getting angrier.
A lot of honorable, famous, and important Dota 2 personalities have said their words in recent days, while some team and organizations discontinued existing because of the rough times they had (eg. Reality Rift, GeekFam). And on September 4, 2020 Valve has finally released a statement about what we are to expect in the nearest future.
Here are the most important points (quotes):
Valve about TI and DPC
- For this upcoming competitive season, there are going to be at least four third party events and leagues in EU/CIS events, three in China, and a few others that are still in the preliminary planning stages and are not able to commit at this time.
- Our outlook right now is that we are anticipating the start of DPC to be in the first month or two of 2021.
- We are also operating under the assumption that the most likely outcome is for The International to happen in Stockholm in August 2021.
Valve about Dota TV and streaming
- Starting September 15, the Dota license we will be updated to reflect the following: Organizers that run Dota 2 Tournaments will have to provide community streamers with a reasonable and simple to execute set of non-monetary requirements, such as displaying the organizers sponsors on their streams or having a slight delay on the games. Community streamers will be able to use the DotaTV feed in their broadcast as long as they agree to those requirements.
Valve has dispelled some of the concerns about tournaments and the future of Dota, but there are still unanswered questions. Nevertheless, judging by the statement, we will soon receive several major announcements from the tournament organizers. It remains only to wait for the beginning of 2021.
