Valve has announced the cancelation of the fourth Dota Pro Circuit 2020 Major and Minor. DotaPit Minor 2020 was to take place from April 23-26, while EPICENTER Major 2020 was May 2-10.
The decision came as the result of growing health concerns regarding the coronavirus. The cancelation comes on the heels of last week’s postponement of the ESL One Los Angeles Major. The situation continues to worsen as the world experiences the repercussions that come with trying to suppress the disease’s spread.
After careful consideration of the current state and trajectory of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the health risk that this presents to competitors, staff and fans alike, we have made the difficult decision to cancel to the 4th minor and major tournaments of the DPC season.— DOTA 2 (@DOTA2) March 15, 2020
Valve has stated that it will continue to monitor the situation concerning how the rest of the DPC 2019/2020 will be handled. The removal of the fourth wave of events will affect point distribution as well, but Valve is yet to announce how it will resolve that issue too.
Given the high fluidity of the state of both the pandemic and geopolitical landscape, we will keep following the situation and decide how to approach the final major and minor of the season as the weeks progress.
The next and final set of DPC events is the ONE Esports Singapore Major 2020, and its currently unannounced Minor. The fifth Major is scheduled to hold from June 20-28, but that could change if the global situation doesn’t improve.
