Tug of War: Rise of the Dire. Юго-Восточная Азия

The trading stop was flooded with bright morning light. The air had a deep, stupefying smell of a late spring's forest thicket. One can hear the stream flowing alongside the camp, while birds were performing an early-spring concert. All the nature had a calming effect on the guests of the clearing — two travellers wrapped in long linen robes.

A lean merchant with a concentrated face unwound a balm-soaked band on his left thigh. With the help of secret elixirs, his wound received in a recent journey quickly healed, although it was evident from the facial expression that the damaged tissues still ache.

The traveller took out a fresh bundle of bandage and asked:

"Who is next?"

"The South-East Enclave," his companion answered. While the comrade was busy with the wound, the big man took out a huge pack of parchment sheets. Judging by the fine handwriting and schematic illustrations, these were recipes and detailed equipment drawings. The merchant continued.

"These are desperate warriors, who won many spectacular victories in local skirmishes as well as in large-scale battles with foreigners. Despite the fact that the Enclave can not boast of any tangible influence, or established reputation, or advanced weapons, its soldiers easily can make bleed numerous troops and provide decent resistance to the strongest military formations of any part of the world."

"The history of the Enclave knows both ups and downs. The best sons of the region are fighting in the desire to represent the South-East, and the sharp temper of the local fighters — the real scourge for strangers — turns these battles into a cruel and bloody massacre. In battles, the Enclave warriors show remarkable ingenuity and are able to take the enemy by surprise. And, if this happens, it is useless to beg for mercy."

The lean one attentively listened to his partner while soaking a fresh compress with a balm.

"Recently, more and more alien mercenaries have appeared in the region," the merchant added, "they can bring discipline and strategic literacy to the Enclave.” And then the South-East will rise..."

"No one would have wanted to be their neighbours," his comrade answered, finishing a dark green substance from his paunchy flask. "It’s good to remember these detachments."
