The coronavirus pandemic has led to many cancelations, postponements, or moves to online events. However, the reality of having global online tournaments for the FGC hasn't been as smooth as it has been for other esports.
This is especially the case with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which is why Jacob "Alpharad" Rabon IV and Charlie "MoistCr1tikal" White, the organizers behind The Quarantine Series, have decided to change up the rules for their big Super Smash Bros. online tournament.

The Quarantine Series will now be region locked to just Canada, Mexico, and the United States to help reduce the distance and improve the online experience between competitors. All Minor events have also been removed from the tournament series, with the next event scheduled for May 30 with a $10,000 prize pool. Additionally, character selection will now be by random select.
With these changes, it's hoped that situations like the disruptions experienced during Brian "Cosmos" Kalu and Grayson "Grayson" Ramos' match in the Pound Online top 32 will no longer occur. There's also the belief that many characters play differently online than they do offline. Sonic the Hedgehog has been widely considered the best for online play and also happens to be the player of choice of Sonix, the winner of the recently concluded The Quarantine Series Major #1.
Hopefully, with these changes, The Quarantine Series will become a better experience for players and fans alike.
