“The engine... never changes”
Despite the fact The Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield are getting done for next generation consoles, Bethesda still plans to use Creation Engine.
“For Fallout 76 we have changed a lot. The game uses a new renderer, a new lighting system and a new system for the landscape generation. For Starfield even more of it changes. And for The Elder Scrolls 6, out there on the horizon even more. We like our editor. It allows us to create worlds really fast and the modders know it really well. There are some elementary ways we create our games and that will continue because that lets us be efficient and we think it works best.”
- Todd Howard in Gamestar’s interview
Now here’s a thing: all of us are familiar with Creation Engine. Players, modders, devs and speedrunners know it through and through (the latter adore it for its ton of bugs that can be pleasantly abused, making the games 40 times shorter). Perhaps, the new versions will be able to bypass physics getting tied to FPS, inability to change FoV and outdated visual effects. But I would not hope for that, to be honest.
