Many tournament organizers around the world have hosted charity events to help raise funds to combat the coronavirus pandemic. Donations have been for a variety of things, from supporting TOs that had to cancel their events to supporting vaccines research and more.
In March, WePlay! held the WeSave! Charity Play event. It employed a region-based series with HellRaisers, Team Nigma, PSG.LGD, Evil Geniuses, Thunder Predator, and Team Adroit winning in their respective regions. The tournament raised $188,879.69, which was split between the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations ( CEPI ) and GlobalGiving charitable foundations.
Gamers Without Borders 2020 featured a charity prize pool of $1,500,000.
