Team Aster has announced the signing of former Newbee mid player, Song “Sccc” Chun. It comes as a surprise since the Chinese player voluntarily left his old team to work on himself.
Newbee saw a tough season during Dota Pro Circuit 2018-2019. Struggling to build a solid competitive roster, its highest placement was fourth at MDL Macau 2019 which wasn't even a DPC event. The organisation then took sixth place at The International 2019 China qualifiers.
So when the North American organisation Forward Gaming shut down, Newbee quickly signed their old roster since they had already qualified for TI9. Sccc and the rest of the team were placed on the bench and the organisation went on to finish 9th-12th.
It was shortly after that Sccc announced his departure, citing his poor performance as his reason for leaving. Yet, throughout the last season with all the changes the team went through, Sccc was the only constant. “Let’s talk about this year, we got no results this season, and it was mainly because of my poor performance,” Sccc had posted on Weibo.
That's why his move to Team Aster is a bit of a surprise, though rumours of such a change have been around since TI8. His new team also saw a tough 2018-2019 season, struggling with its roster and barely managing to compete at Valve sponsored events.
“The champion picks up the sword, within the buffeting winds. Big brother soldier not only has the experience, but has reached his prime. We are excited for his addition to breathe new life into our team.” stated Team Aster on Weibo.
It hasn't been announced which position Sccc will play but general speculation says he could be replacing Kee “ChYuan” Ng. The Chinese Dota 2 scene is seeing a lot of reshuffling which could result in a much more competitive season this year.
