Earlier in the year, The Information reported that the American multinational tech company Amazon was working on a game streaming service. Fast forward to this week, and now CNET shares similar news.
According to CNET's report, Amazon's plans are moving on fine as it has begun to hire talent to fill roles associated with the project. One particular job listing states that, “We believe the evolution that began with arcade communities a quarter at a time, growing to the live streams and esports of today, will continue to a future where everyone is a gamer, and every gamer can create, compete, collaborate and connect with others at massive scales.”
The report also states that Amazon's AWS cloud service will power the game streaming service. Additionally, it will be integrated with Twitch to provide players with unique experiences.
Amazon hasn't had a very favorable time in game development as it spent years building up internal game development teams on some now canceled projects, and worked on by some developers who have now been laid off.
However, that isn't stopping Amazon from making its play at the game streaming market. Google Stadia launched on November 19, and Microsoft is also working on its own game streaming service powered by Azure, so competition is strong.
The competition is stacked even higher with the upcoming release of next-generation consoles, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett, in Fall 2020. However, this is a party Amazon doesn't want to be left out of.
