Riot Games senior producer Ian "Brighteyz" Fielding shared details regarding the VALORANT competitive mode in a recent blog post, going over their plans and the reasoning behind them.
The VALORANT team has put a focus on fair matchmaking, changes in player skill level, and keeping an eye out for smurfs and boosters. The mode will not always be available during the closed beta, as it will occasionally be taken offline, so adjustments based on player feedback can be made. Also, player feedback will form the backbone of how the mode develops.
How to get in
To gain entry into the competitive mode, players will need to play 20 matches in unranked. Also, all ranked progress in the closed beta will be reset after the game's official launch. As a result, players will need to regain entry into the competitive mode after launch.

Ranking up
VALORANT's competitive mode has eight ranks players will need to climb, each consisting of three levels. They are:
-
Iron
-
Bronze
-
Silver
-
Gold
-
Platinum
-
Diamond
-
Immortal
-
VALORANT
Personal skill will be used initially to determine a player's capabilities, but progress through ranked will be mainly determined by match wins. Skillful play will also contribute to progress up until players reach VALORANT, where only wins and losses will be considered. The opposite is also the case, with poor performance and losses resulting in a decrease in rank.
There will also not be any penalties for not playing regularly, but inactivity after 14-days will result in the player's rank not being displayed.
Balance
Riot Games has made balance a priority in VALORANT, especially with competitive mode, which is why team members cannot have a rank difference of more than 2. This rule will ensure that no single player carries the team all by themselves and should improve teamwork among members. Teams will consist of up to 5 players and will be matched with opposing teams with a similar composition.
The VALORANT competitive mode will make its debut with patch 0.49, and will first arrive in Europe and North America. You can find the full post on the official website here.
