Today, Remedy Entertainment Plc announced it has earned €2.5 million in royalties “from previously released games as one-time income”, for the first half of 2019. What is most interesting is, “In relation to this, the publishing rights of Alan Wake games are reverted to Remedy.”
This means that not only does Remedy Entertainment now own the publishing rights to Alan Wake, but also that they see enough potential in the franchise to warrant acquiring it.
Alan Wake was originally developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Microsoft Game Studios for an Xbox 360 release in May 2010. Despite being an Xbox 360 exclusive on release, Remedy Entertainment were eventually able to publish the game on PC in 2012.
Based on the wording of their announcement, the publishing rights for Alan Wake have “reverted” to Remedy, meaning they either lost PC publishing rights at some point and have now regained it or they have acquired console rights to the in addition to PC. Whatever the case, the royalties received and acquisition of publishing rights could both portray renewed interest in the IP.
Its not clear when Remedy Entertainment received the publishing rights to Alan Wake but it would most likely be sometime before 2019. With the studio presently working on Control, a supernatural action-adventure game, Remedy may not even have the time and resources to dedicate to a new Alan Wake game just yet. Yet, fans can still hope
