The first of its kind esports television Sport 1 Esports has signed a two-year deal with an American video game developer and publisher Blizzard Entertainment to broadcast live German-language coverage of the Overwatch League and Hearthstone esports events. Financial terms were not disclosed, however, we have learned that the deal includes rights to broadcast tournaments from 2018 in both games, including Overwatch World Cup and the Hearthstone Championship Tour.
According to a press release, the eSPORTS1 already partnered with global tournament organizer Electronic Sports League (ESL) and this should be another big step for the television who just launched a week ago. The channel will broadcast 24/7 in three German-speaking countries, such as Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
This is not the first deal for American video game publisher. A year ago, Blizzard announced a multi-year partnership with Disney to broadcast the Overwatch League via ESPN channels, Disney XD, and ABC's family of networks. Besides that, Blizzard also signed a streaming deal with streaming platform Twitch reportedly worth $90M of American's dollars. With that being said, Blizzard can increase its total prize pool to $4M in upcoming Overwatch League season.
