Ever since Square Enix announced its partnership with People Can Fly, gamers have been waiting to see what the AAA shooter will be like. With their track record of great games such as Painkiller, Gears of War: Judgement and Bulletstorm, we could be in for a treat. You might be wondering how we know it’s a shooter after checking out the link above. Well, during an interview with Dualshockers, People Can Fly CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski said:
— We are working on our new game, which is a AAA shooter and a new IP. Unfortunately, that is just about as much as I can tell you right now about the game. We are developing this game in collaboration with Square Enix, and right now 100% of our focus is on this game.
Now, a new Twitter account was created with the Outrider name, and it has been posting mission logs since May 1 which began to grow more cryptic. Then a mysterious 9-second video is posted with nothing discernable except what looks like ice with log describing the waking from cryosleep. The most recent post has a longer teaser with a date and #SquareEnixE3.
So, we're clearly being told that Square Enix has something to do with the game but how do we make the connection to People Can Fly? Well, Gematsu discovered that Square Enix Trademarked the name Outriders in Europe back in May. They were the first to link it with the partnership since Head of Square Enix London Studios, Lee Singleton, said in the press release:
— We’re massively excited to be working with the talented team at PCF in Warsaw, a studio filled with people who really know their craft.”
Coupled with the fact that the name doesn't fit any other properties we are expecting from Square Enix, it makes sense that this could be People Can Fly's shooter.
Okay, so I know this all might sound a bit far-fetched, but it gives us something fun to look forward to while we wait for Square Enix's E3 press conference. We also get to brag to our friends that we got it right if it does turn out to be correct.
