We have already written that Nvidia has chosen to advertise its new RTX-enabled video cards through the resurrection of old projects. One of them was Quake II, which, just for you to recall, was released in 1997. Now the company introduced the first trailer of the game and showed how ray tracing works in real time and transforms what seemed prehistoric.
In the trailer, you can see that tracing really works and makes the picture very realistic in terms of lighting. In addition, the game was transferred to the API Vulkan, and also added high-resolution textures and models from the Quake 2 XP modification. The client has support for realistic smoke, fire on Nvidia Flow technology. You can notice the differences yourself, the authors of the video took care of comparing the graphics with the old version in real time.
All the irony is that in order to play the game of 1997 with prettier graphics, you now need a video card from the RTX family. The release is expected on June 6th.
