Yesterday NetherRealm Studios released a teaser in which we see the final moments of Mortal Kombat 11 interrupted by what sounds like Shang Tsung and three mysterious characters. Well, now the kat is out of the bag.
In a new trailer, NetherRealm introduces Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, a story expansion that picks up around the end of the game’s original story. As we all guessed, Shang Tsung has a new plot, but this time it involves being sent back in time to steal Kronika’s crown so that the heroes can set history aright.
Besides the new story content, Aftermath also includes three new characters, Fujin, Sheeva, and believe it or not, RoboCop. While dataminers revealed the possible inclusion of Sheeva and Fujin to the roster, not many fans were expecting to see the cybernetic Detroit police officer formerly known as Alex Murphy as well. It’s an interesting touch but not quite Ash Williams from the Evil Dead.
Mortal Kombat: Aftermath will also bring back Friendships. They’re acts of kindness, and goodwill players can perform on their helpless opponents instead of the usual gruesome Fatalities. Additionally, four stages will be included; updated versions of the Klassic Dead Pool and Soul Chamber arenas, a mashup of past and present stages Retrokade, and an entirely new stage that shows off the exterior of Kronika’s Keep. Then there are three new skin packs to deck your favorite characters out in.
That’s not all though, as the new stages, stage fatalities, and friendships will all arrive in a free update. The new characters and story will, however, be part of the paid expansion. Players can also purchase the Mortal Kombat 11 Kollection, which bundles the main game with the Kombat Pack and Aftermath expansion.
Mortal Kombat: Aftermath will be available digitally first on May 26. Those that preorder will receive the Eternal Klash Skin Pack, with Playstation players getting an additional dynamic theme featuring Raiden, Liu Kang, and music from the game.
