Following the German government’s official ruling that bans large gatherings until the end of August, ESL One Cologne 2020 has been on a tight rope. Similar restrictions in Australia have also put IEM Melbourne on shaky ground.
ESL has now decided to postpone the ESL One Cologne, and IEM Melbourne live events to 2021. All purchased tickets are eligible for refunds until the end of 2020; otherwise, they will count towards next year’s events instead. However, that’s not all for ESL One Cologne this year.
In the spirit of esports and to keep the competition for players going, this summer’s #ESLProTour Masters Championship in Cologne will be transformed into a broadcasted tournament without a live-audience on 21-30 August. Our team is currently working out the details, stay tuned.— 6 DAYS TIL IEM KATOWICE 2022 (@ESLCS) May 5, 2020
ESL One Cologne 2020 will transition into a broadcast event without a live audience, but there are currently no details regarding whether players will also be competing in the studio. The other alternative is they play their matches online like many tournaments, including ESL Pro League Season 11, have been doing.
Initially slated for July 6-12, ESL One Cologne 2020 will now take place from August 21-30, with more details provided in the coming days. ESL One Cologne 2021 will hold from July 16-18, while IEM Melbourne will maintain its August 21-22 date at the Rod Laver Arena.
