This story has never been made public before; during the recent livestream on Twitch, Todd Howard has told a remarkable anecdote in just a few sentences. He said that he once received a package, which was, in fact, a box of bobby pins. It had a short letter attached to it saying, “Weigh these.” Howard was not only kind enough to tell this story, but he also admitted that it was the most creative letter he got. And you should understand that Bethesda is getting tons of letters. Thankfully, the company has no issues with self-irony.

Overweighed bobby pins were obviously not the only problem with Fallout 76. The game had a troubling launch, although it seems like Bethesda has taken the right route to make the project a lot better than it initially was.
