MTG owned tournament organizers DreamHack and ESL have signed a three-year deal with the popular streaming platform, Twitch. The partnership builds upon their relationship, which began about a decade ago.
As a result, Twitch becomes the global digital media partner of DreamHack and ESL events. Additionally, all English broadcasts of events from 2021-2022 will be exclusively streamed on Twitch. These events include DreamHack Masters, DreamHack Open, ESL One, ESL Pro League, and Intel Extreme Masters.
ESL and Twitch have been key players in the history of esports as we know it. The continuation of our partnership will strengthen not only the content offerings for fans, but also the greater esports community that ESL, Dreamhack, and Twitch have cultivated over the years
In 2018, ESL signed a similar deal with Facebook, which didn’t go so well thanks to a poor viewing experience and fans generally preferring other platforms to stream the events on. Twitch’s success primarily comes from all its gaming and esports content; thus this deal makes perfect sense and shouldn’t have the same issues that plagued the Facebook partnership. It will be particularly interesting to see what new integrations and sponsorship arise from the new deal.
This partnership is a milestone for DreamHack, both as a company and community. Our cooperation with Twitch dates back to 2009 when it was still Justin.tv — this new collective media partnership is reconfirming our long-standing collaboration and highlights the importance and relevance Twitch has to our community, as well as the value the ESL/DreamHack esports content brings to the global Twitch audience
Fans of CS:GO, Dota 2, StarCraft II, and many more games will be able to watch all their favorite events in one place. With Twitch continually adding new features to the platform, the viewing experience should only get better.
