This is one of those stories that you read and wonder if a 5-year-old post somehow showed up in your feed. According to Kotaku, until a couple of weeks ago Blizzard was developing an FPS based on the StarCraft universe. It was supposed to be similar to Battlefield, where players would be fighting off Zerg as Terran Marine.
There was also a mention of a mobile game which was cancelled alongside with the StarCraft title.
Blizzard made the decision to focus more resources on “Diablo 4” and “Overwatch 2.” Kotaku reports that none of the employees was laid off after the change of plans.
Diablo 4 has been in development for many years and in 2016 it was reportedly rebooted. Everything we know about Overwatch 2, for now, is that it will have a PVE element. Some Blizzard employees compared it to Left for Dead.
In 2014, Blizzard cancelled another FPS game called StarCraft: Ghost, which had been in development for almost 10 years.
