Soren “Bjergsen” Bjerg, has signed a two-year extension with Team SoloMid, making him the longest-tenured player in the team’s history. As part of the deal, he has also secured a stake in TSM.

Considered one of the best League of Legends mid-laners in the world, Bjergsen was approached by TSM CEO and founder, Andy “Reginald” Dinh to become a part-owner. Dinh himself was the first League of Legends player-owner and also happened to play mid-lane.

Dinh stated in a release: “It was essential for us to re-sign Bjergsen. Not only is he one of the best players at his position, but he is also a great leader. He shares the same values we do as an organisation. He is selfless, hardworking, and focused. It is this culture of grit, fortitude, and determination that is the most vital part of our organisation. At TSM, we are committed to living this culture, and Bjergsen is a testament to that. He is more than just a player to us, so making him a strategic shareholder was important.”

Bjergsen joined the team on November 2013 after Dinh stepped down from his mid-laner position. Since then he has become an iconic member of the organisation and a valuable player. Prior to this deal, rumours claimed Bjergsen could be leaving the team. This new deal does away with that.

Bjergsen also commented on the deal: “For the past six years, TSM has been my home, and I’ve witnessed it evolve from an esports team to the organisation it is today. I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to not only continue my career here as a player but also be a bigger part of the incredible future that lies ahead for TSM.”

Rule 2.5 of the official 2019 LCS Rule Set states that: “The GM, Head Coach, Strategic Coach, LACS Coach and any Owner of the Team may not be on the Full Team Roster.” This would ideally mean that the deal violates Rule 2.5, but the Commissioner of LCS Chris Greeley clarified the situation while speaking to ESPN. He stated that players who have played on a team for three or more consecutive years are allowed to compete for and own said team.

Bjergsen owning and playing for TSM means that there is now a strong bond between his personal brand and the TSM franchise. It means the organisation will continue to benefit from the great player's experience both in-game and out.
