A couple of days ago, Ubisoft released an updated version of Assassin's Creed III, which improved many graphical and gameplay aspects, at the same time “screwing up” with the faces of the characters and with the lighting in some scenes. However, after its release, the original version of the project was removed from Steam and Uplay. Valve’s digital service contains the following message regarding this change:
“At the request of the publisher, Assassin’s Creed® III is no longer available for sale on Steam.”
The remaster costs $39.99, while the standard edition price dropped to $19.99, and it was $4.99 for the United States and $1.89 for Russia a few weeks ago as part of a sale according to the SteamDB service.
Those who had previously purchased an original copy can still download it. However, the game disappeared from Uplay irrevocably and, when you try to download the game, it merely redirects the user to the Steam page. Ubisoft hasn’t given an official comment on this yet. This decision seems quite logical for new players who will meet one of the best parts of the series in an updated form, but slightly disappointing for the Uplay audience, now forced to pay again.
Digital Foundry reporter Thomas Morgan decided to take a look at the updated version of Assassin's Creed III on PS4 and PS4 Pro, comparing it with the original on PS3. The analysis is based on the first hours of the project.
The most important innovation was the introduction of physical rendering, which greatly influenced the appearance of the game and the display of many materials, making the image more natural. Developers have changed materials like skin and hair so that they look better with new lighting and rendering method, but in the end, people's faces look noticeably worse than their predecessors from the original.
The updated version of Assassin's Creed III was released March 29 on PS4, Xbox One and PC. It will be on Nintendo Switch in late May.
