It's quite difficult to understand Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order apart from previous Star Wars license games since certain gameplay elements have become standard for the franchise, and the developers simply can't do much without them. During the premiere demonstration, Respawn showed a classic set of Jedi arsenal techniques, a linear narration, opponents who are unable to fight back and a routine collection items looting.
On the other hand, the developers assure that the shown segment is only one of the few levels built on the scripted passage from point A to point B, and most of the storyline campaign will follow completely different rules, more reminiscent of the Metroid and Dark Souls series.
The plot takes place in the period between the "Revenge of the Sith" and "New Hope." The main character is a padawan named Cal Kestis, who survived Order 66. Well, he managed to complete his academy though he is not yet a jedi — you can understand why. Cal travels around the galaxy with his BD1 droid, hiding from the "inquisitors" of the newly formed Empire. The authors are very reluctant to share Cal's history but promise that he will be a significant figure for the Star Wars universe. Also, some of you may have recognised the man acting: Cameron Monaghan, who is best known for "Shameless" and "Gotham" TV-series. We bet he'll receive Emmy Award one day.
As the story progresses, Cal will acquire his own spacecraft, acting as a hub with an interactive galaxy map and living areas, where you can chat with the NPC, upgrade abilities and participate in a number of other activities, which will be announced later.
The player will be able to return to the discovered locations in the later stages when Cal learns new skills — all to visit previously inaccessible areas. With the help of a droid, you can at any time call a holographic location scheme, where unexplored areas are hidden by the fog of war. The developers want the player to independently choose the order of performing tasks and exploring new planets, not to follow the only correct path, as is usual in other plot-oriented products.
The developers have also decided to abandon the combo system in favour of more realistic quick vulnerable zones strikes. The combat system will include evasions (Dark Souls), tight timing parrying (Sekiro), complex patterns of enemy behaviour (Bloodborne), endurance bar both for the hero and the opponents, a limited number of first-aid kits, replenished at special points... that is, almost the full set of what we saw in Hidetaka Miyazaki's games. Unfortunately, all the fights presented at EA Play neither do reveal the potential of this system at all nor do correspond to these statements — the gameplay seems to be too slow and simple. We hope that the reason is only that it was the early part of the campaign presented and then the complexity and speed will increase like it was with God of War.

Respawn promised that about half of the planets Cal will visit would previously be unknown to all Star Wars fans, the same goes for the main actors on both sides of the barricades. In E3 2019 trailers there was only one familiar face: Saw Gerrera, who became an important figure in the fight against the Empire and influenced the formation of the Resistance. He first appeared in the animated series "Star Wars: Clone Wars," then in several episodes of "Star Wars: Rebels" and completed his journey to "Rogue One."
This role was played by Forest Whitaker, who won an Oscar in 2007 and is very well know among Jim Jarmusch's fans. He also agreed to play in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but it is still unknown whether the hero is a key figure for the story or appears only in the early stages.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be available November 15, 2019, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
