It is the season of giving, and it would appear that several pro players in the fighting game community have decided to gift us with a whole bunch of tier lists. This time we have Gonzalo "ZeRo" Barrios of Tempo Storm, the undisputed best Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (Smash 4) player thanks to his 56 tournament win streak. The impressive feat earned him a Guinness World Record Gamers Edition 2017 award.
ZeRo hasn't released a tier list for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in a long time, which has allowed changes to pile up. Satisfied with how different the meta is from his last ranking, ZeRo decided to share his own insights on the game's current roster.
The list has been split into five ranks, with Little Mac getting his very own right at the bottom. The top rank is "characters that consistently win tournaments," second is "characters that can win tournaments," the third is "useful counter picks under top tier" and fourth is "mid-tier." The list isn't as detailed as Eric “ESAM” Lew's list, but he does get straight to the point.
Right at the top of his list is Joker, for his success in the hands of the reigning Super Smash Bros. Ultimate champion, Leonardo "MKLeo" Lopez Perez. He's also up there for having few exploitable weaknesses. He shares the tier with the usual picks like Peach, Pokémon Trainer and Pikachu.
In his second rank, we have Zero Suit Samus, Lucina, and Shulk, to name a few. One big surprise here though is Wolf, as he hasn't featured this high in some of the tier lists out so far.
The fighters from other fighters, Ryu, Ken, and Terry Bogard all appear in the third tier as useful counter picks under the top tiers. Considered highly technical, ZeRo believes they will always be a threat at high-level play.
