If you think you’ve seen it all, think again. Just yesterday, Riot Games published a Youtube video featuring League of Legends champions imitating a K-Pop group in a musical performance. Akali, Kai’Sa, Evelynn, and Ahri, sporting a new set of skins already available in-game, are the stars of the ‘band’s’ first single - POP/STARS. The band itself has been christened K/DA and even has a Spotify page.
Even if you don't feel partial to K-Pop music, Riot Games still deserve a round of applause for ingenuity in attempting to further spread their product, as they’ve clearly chosen an apt cultural phenomenon to engage with the community. Promotional stunts often do more harm than good; luckily, though, K/DA’s seems to have been received rather well by the League of Legends fanbase.
It remains to be seen if Riot Games choose to take the fictional K-Pop group further, or if the song is a one-off. What are your thoughts on the video? Comment below!
