Microsoft has just announced that the previously exclusive for Xbox consoles subscription generally known as Xbox Game Pass is coming to PC in its full glory. Well, close to full, as the subscription won’t offer existing console video games – but rather a library of PC games developed specifically for that particular platform.
In case you are unfamiliar with how Xbox Game Pass actually works, it is a monthly-based subscription, which – whilst active – grants you with access to a huge amount of Xbox video games. Moreover, active subscribers can play the newest Xbox exclusives the day they release – and the users are also treated with exclusive discounts available only if you have an Xbox Game Pass membership. However, on PC the subscription will include over 100 quality PC games from various well-known publishers with Bethesda Softworks, Deep Silver, Devolver Digital, and Paradox Interactive among others. In other words, it is not a direct “port” of the subscription from Xbox to PC – each platform stays with its own set of games, although there’re going to be a lot of similarities in terms of available titles and features. Obviously, the coolest feature of playing the newest releases will remain on PC untouched.
Interestingly, Microsoft has finally admitted that no one on PC wants to see any store-specific exclusivity for the company’s projects. From now on, all the games from Xbox Game Studios will be available not only in Windows Store – but also on Steam as well. Like Gears 5 and Age of Empires remasters, for instance.
