For their fifth seasson, DotaPit decided to grant only two direct invites, planing to hold a must watch regional qualifiers.
The two teams directly invited are TI6 Champions Wings Gaming and TI6 runner-up champions Digital Chaos. The Chinese squad played amazing Dota at TI6, but haven’t played anything official since then. They didn’t make any changes to their roster, unlike Digital Chaos, who swapped their Offlaner David 'Moo' Hull for former OG member David 'MoonMeander' Tan. The NA team hasn’t appeared in anything official yet either, but we expect to see both squads in November soon at Northern Arena BEAT Invitational.

The LAN finals for the Dota Pit Season 5 are scheduled for January 20th-22nd 2017 and will feature a prize pool of $125,000 plus crowd funding from the in-game ticket and sets available in the tournament chest. It will have a total of eight teams: the two direct invites and winners of the closed regional qualifiers.
The remaining of the six slots will be decided with regional qualifiers in a group stage. Each group will consist of four teams and will have a double elimination format (GSL). Whoever comes on top of each group wins a LAN Final spot with two available for EU, one for CIS, one for SEA, one for China and one for NA. More information on the qualifiers will come at a later date so stay tuned for that one.
