In addition to the nutrition basics, the brain needs vitamins (supplements) for good work, which are difficult to obtain from food in the right quantity. Advice: don't drink more than 2 small cups of coffee per day or later than 5 pm (otherwise you'll have troubles with the sleep).  

  3. Tea. A good cup of strong tea may contain more caffeine than the same amount of coffee. It depends on the type of tea which you prefer, but tea antioxidants help brain activity the same way as coffee does.

  1. Berries. Strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, blackcurrants, mulberries are full of antioxidants that delay brain aging and accelerate blood flow to the brain. The study showed that antioxidant compounds in berries have a lot of positive effects on the brain. For example, they improve communication between brain cells and reduce inflammation throughout the body, help brain cells form new connections, reduce or delay cognitive decline.

  2. Seafood (oily fish, oysters). Fast brain work is impossible without Omega-3 and Omega-8 amino acids. That is why fish (salmon, tuna or other types of oily fish) will help your brain work faster and more efficiently. If there is only one serving of fish per week, then you can significantly reduce your chances of Alzheimer's disease. Any fish contains a large amount of phosphorus useful for the brain and iodine that clarifies the mind. Oysters contain zinc and iron, which allows you to preserve the sharpness of the mind and improve the ability to recall the necessary facts easily. 

  3. Dark chocolate (aka cacao). It's not the best option to eat cacao as it is, so you can eat chocolate that contains at least 70% of cacao or more. Cacao contains flavonoids (antioxidants) — they may encourage neuron and blood vessel growth in parts of the brain involved in memory and learning, and also stimulate blood flow in the brain.

  4. Seeds and nuts. The set of nutrients contained in nuts and seeds promotes clear thinking thanks to omega-6 and omega-3 acids, which act as antidepressants. Some nuts and seeds also contain a lot of thiamine and magnesium, which improve memory, cognitive functions and nutrition of the brain.

  5. Vegetables. Carrots contain large amounts of luteolin, a compound that can reduce age-related memory deficits and the risk of developing inflammatory brain diseases. It also contains beta carotene (source of retinol) necessary for good vision. Beets contain iron, iodine and glucose. Cabbage and spinach are rich in vitamins B6 and B12, folic acid and iron. Broccoli is rich in compounds called glucosinolates. When the body breaks these down, they produce isothiocyanates. Isothiocyanates may reduce oxidative stress and lower the risk of neurodegenerative diseases. Broccoli also contains vitamin C and flavonoids, and these antioxidants can further boost a person's brain health. That's why parents force you to eat vegetables. They do not hate you — they want you to be healthy, active and show good results in study and the games, too.

  6. Fruits. Apples, pears, apricots contain iron, which helps to saturate the brain with the necessary oxygen to maintain its activity. It's recommended for an adult to consume at least 300 - 400 grams of fruit per day.

  7. Eggs. They can serve not only as a tasty and hearty breakfast, but a source of vitamin B-6, vitamin B-12, folic acid and may prevent brain shrinkage and delay cognitive decline.

  8. Whole grains. Brown rice, barley, bulgur wheat, oatmeal, whole-grain bread, whole-grain pasta contain a lot of vitamin E that might help prevent or delay the chronic diseases associated with free radicals.
