As we have learned a few months ago, French video game company Ubisoft - most known for publishing successful games such as Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Prince of Persia - had managed to avoid a corporate takeover by Vivendi (the media giant that owns the Universal Music Group and mobile game publisher Gameloft). As Vivendi backed off, new offer came on the table.
Ontario Teachers Pension Plan and Chinese gaming giant Tencent has come forward with a new investment deal where they promise to not take a seat on Ubisoft’s board of directors and agree “not to transfer its shares or seek to increase its stake in the company”.
However, Vivendi made a press statement confirming the commitment to sell all of the remaining Ubisoft shares they own while extending the final deadline for that to March 7, 2019. Will be really interesting to see what actually happens with this legendary video gaming company in next several months. Stay tuned for more information.
