After several rumors, Valve has finally confirmed the existence of its flagship VR game named Half-Life: Alyx. The developer announced that it would be unveiling the upcoming game on November 21 at 10:00 PST.
There was an interview transcript that recently appeared on Pastebin, which mentions the game. It allegedly quotes an interview between game designer Robin Walker, video game journalist Geoff Keighley, and an unnamed third party. The transcript appeared just before Valve's tweet regarding Half-Life: Alyx and on it, Keighley is quoted to have said, "March 2020, ‘Half-Life: Alyx’ coming out."
During the interview, the unnamed party also confirmed that the game would be VR only. Stating, “I mean, we would love to be delivering a version of this that you could play with a mouse and a keyboard, but like, as we said, it began as an exploration of VR.”
The source behind the interview leak was also responsible for the Dota Underlords early access leak. Another transcript also claimed that the game was to be revealed at The Game Awards, which takes place next month on December 12. The second transcript further bolsters the idea that Valve’s announcement is in reaction to the leaks.
Half-Lif: Alyx isn’t exactly the sequel fans have been asking for, but it is rumored to share the same DNA. Back in October, VNN’s Tyler McVicker put together all his findings on the game at the time, and it provides a wealth of information that might be very accurate. Whatever the case, it will undoubtedly give you a lot to look forward to before the big announcement.
