Artifact had a great concept with implementing strategic elements within a classic CCG ecosystem. Professional card players felt really engaged in promoting and obviously playing the game. The mind behind the project was legendary Richard Garfield who was a flawless choice for a revolution in the genre. But something went wrong nonetheless.

The game proved to have a huge amount of issues. The biggest concern was the suspicious similarity of Artifact to the games belonging the pay-to-win model – and it turned out to be a disaster. There’re, of course, other issues with the game including the unfair RNG, which doesn’t seem to be perceived by the gamers the way it was intended by the developers. Unexpectedly, Valve has appealed to the community with an update regarding the current state of the game. The developers admitted that Artifact is full of fundamental issues that cannot be resolved through the traditional flow of patches and balance changes. The game feels wrong at its core, and Valve has made a tough decision to change the way Artifact functions.

There’re no specific details regarding the future plans of Valve to rebuild Artifact. The announcement, available through this link, hints at the idea that the game won’t be receiving any more regular updates – until the team is ready to present a new, better version of the game. Let’s hope Artifact goes free-to-play given its broken economy.
