While the April Fools’ day was overcrowded with silly news and joke attempts, Valve managed to pull out a nice trick, which turned out to be actually true. The company has unintentionally leaked the first details regarding its own VR headset called Index, which has been officially announced just recently.
The device was listed on Steam for a short period of time, but it was enough for the listing to be noticed by the Internet users. Unfortunately, the description for the device was not finalized for the moment of the actual “leakage”, and we are left with a traditional placeholder text, “Lorem ipsum.” But the list of specifications gives the idea of the package’s contents, which include the Index VR headset, integrated headphones, a tether with DisplayPort 1.2 and USB 3.0 connections, a power adaptor, two face gaskets, and a cleaning cloth. Apart from that, there’s also a couple of new images so that you can actually have the first proper impression. The initial teaser by Valve wasn’t informative enough.
Valve’s Knuckles controllers were also listed under the new name Valve Index Controllers. They will be sold separately. And the best part of this story is that Valve has officially confirmed that the leak was accurate in terms of the information provided. The pre-orders start on May 1, and the first shipments will start in June.
