Valve just updated the official Steam blog with interesting information and stats about the service. For example, in 2018 alone Steam provided 15.39 exabytes of data to the customers who were downloading games, workshop items, and updates, as well as using chats, watching streams and more. For a point of reference, one exabyte holds 1 million terabytes.
The most exciting part of the post comes at the end where the company outlines future plans for Steam.

- A new algorithm powered by machine-learning will enhance the game recommendation engine.

- Steam Community will get a better Events system to help players highlight activities like "tournaments, streams, or weekly challenges."
- A Steam TV update will help to broaden its use beyond streaming special events.
- Trusted Matchmaking technology used in CS:GO will start working in other games as well. Players will be better equipped to know if their opponent used cheats.
