Speaking to IGN, Valorant executive producer Anna Donlon shared a little about the size of the game’s roster. “Of the ten or so agents available at Valorant’s launch, five will be fully unlocked out of the gate. From there, players can unlock additional characters,” she stated.
Riot Games’ upcoming tactical hero shooter, Valorant will launch with a roster of about 10 Agents. Five of them will be available to play with from the get-go, while the remainder will have to be unlocked in-game or purchased. Implementation will be via an “engagement-incentivized model” that unlocks not only these characters but also levels in the game’s battle pass.
The battle pass will also possess two separate reward tiers, “free” and “premium,” which has become the norm in games that make use of these passes. Riot Games has assured fans that the battle pass will not include items and abilities that can influence the outcome of matches, so that means strictly cosmetic items.
Eight of the game’s Agents have already been named, with videos rolling out to showcase what each of them can do. So far, only British Agent Phoenix has had his gameplay video revealed, but it shouldn’t be too long before we see more of the others.
Valorant is popularly considered a mix between Counter-Strike and Overwatch, with a Summer 2020 launch window.
