GameStop is one of the USA's largest video games and electronics retail networks — they have become a partner of compLexity Gaming, Team EnVyUs and OpTic Gaming. Also, the deal includes Dallas Fuel and Houston Outlaws — Overwatch League teams, which are Envy and OpTic divisions.
GameStop will organize various esports events and prize draws. Besides, compLexity is opening new headquarters in May in Texas — GameStop is the name.
It's worth noting that, to put it mildly, the company founded in 1984 is barely making ends meet: more and more games are sold online, so there's simply no need of game stores nowadays. Add the fact that Sony will stop providing codes for PlayStation 4 games to retailers, and things will get even worse.
Another noteworthy detail is that GameStop announced their collaboration shortly before the company announces the new CEO. George Sherman was appointed to this position on March 21, but he will replace Shane Kim only from April 15. A change of course during a change of leadership is a very ambiguous step. So far this deal raises more questions than reasons for joy. We will be glad if the cooperation will help both parties.
