Tal "Fly" Aizik

Johan "n0tail" Sundstein

Gustav "s4" Magnusson

Sébastien "Ceb" Debs

Jesse "JerAx" Vainikka

Once upon a time, five players lived in peace, but s4 and Fly went to EG. The end.

… of Fly and n0tail friendship, but not for our story. We are just starting.

Background: there were times when Dota 2 doesn't exist yet. Two friends played together in the MOBA game Heroes of Newerth until 2011, including a professional level. At a certain point, the glow of the first The International highlighted the horizon. To be more accurate, $1.6 million shone. Therefore, Johan "n0tail" Sundstein, Yasha "NoVa" Markuse, Tal "Fly" Aizik and Adrian "Era" Kresiu formed the Dota 2 Fnatic.EU lineup in 2012.

Act One

Johan's team received a direct invitation to The International 2013 and took 7-8 place.

Well, we're done with boring chronology now. For the next few years, everything went well. So that old friends n0tail and Fly were the first players to win first place in four tournaments from Valve.

They played together for about nine years until Fly decided that he could do more with another lineup. Tal "Fly" Aizik and Gustav "s4" Magnusson left the OG team and joined Evil Geniuses. The story of the fundamental opposition between OG and Evil Geniuses begins from this moment.

Act Two

Let us explain the level of drama and betrayal in the meme:

HEY F L Y, I’M TRYING TO LEARN TO PLAY RIKI. I JUST HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT THE SKILL BUILD: SHOULD I MAX BACKSTAB LIKE YOU BACKSTABBED OG, SMOKESCREEN SO THEY MISS ME LIKE OG MISS YOU 70% OF THE TIME, OR PERMANET INVISIBILITY SO I COULD DISAPPEAR LIKE YOU DISAPPEARED FROM OG

The sidekicks, who had played together for nine years, split up into different teams. OG and EG confrontation began. In fact, the community didn't really believe in OG success. It was a heavy blow for n0tail: the mid-season and two players left the team. They couldn't receive an invitation to TI8 anymore. Analysts and commentators believed that OG chances decreased significantly.

1437's tweet was incredibly accurate. Indeed, EG seemed very strong and began to show great results. Their new lineup included:

  • Artour "Arteezy" Babaev

  • Syed Sumail "SumaiL" Hassan

  • Gustav "s4" Magnusson

  • Andreas Franck "Cr1t-" Nielsen

  • Tal "Fly" Aizik

It's enough to notice SumaiL and Arteezy, to let all questions disappear. Other teammates only complemented the star deuce, and they completed it very successfully: EG has been recognized and reached The International 2018 semi-finals very simply.

Act Three

Let's return to May 2018. Johan finds strength, gathers a squad and begins climbing The International from scratch: the team has lost all points, there is no question of direct inviting, and therefore it is necessary to make it by themselves. The strongest region in Dota 2, the most unstable games, but perseverance made OG the only team on TI8 that went through the European qualifiers.

N0tail and his squad:

  • Anathan "ana" Pham

  • Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen

  • Sébastien "Ceb" Debs

  • Jesse "JerAx" Vainikka

  • Johan "n0tail" Sundstein

Overcoming wasn't over. OG fell into the "group of death" with such giants of DotA as Team Liquid, PSG.LGD and Mineski. There were no random teams on TI8, but they were still a bit condescending towards the new squad. So much that PSG.LGD and Fnatic lost to them and secured a place in the upper bracket of the championship. Next match against VGJ.Storm with 2:0 score: it doesn't matter, next. OG vs EG with the 2:1 score: it doesn't matter, ne ... wait, what?!

Act Four

Let's stop here for a moment. You can not skip this match. N0tail on support characters was the god on these three maps and, of course, he charged teammates. There is almost no point in describing what was in the game, but the moment when two former friends, Johan "n0tail" Sundstein and Tal "Fly" Aizik walked past each other and shook hands after the match, went down in history.

If the glance could kill or freeze, then we couldn't guarantee Fly's safety. Even though Tal is two times as wide as Johan Sundstein and is engaged in Krav Maga, you could feel the fear for him at that moment.

Unfortunately, the camera doesn’t capture Fly's facial expression. There was also no second chance to look at both players in the same frame: EG left the third place, OG took the first. You can read more about the legendary and epic match for the title of champion in our article.

Has the story of two teams ended there? Of course not. N0tail relaxed after TI8, and his team is in the top 12 without a guarantee to appear on TI9 for eight months after the previous championship. At the same time, EG has already secured a direct invite from the top 3 world rankings, and they're showing excellent results in tournaments. One of the last meetings of the teams took place at MDL Disneyland Paris Major, in the lower bracket. EG beat OG with the "dry" 2:0 score.

TI9 will be soon, and it'll put everything in its place. Perhaps the OG miracle was one-time, and Johan has no longer the motivation to fight to the end. Probably, EG is indeed a more stable team, and they'll have better luck this time. One thing is for sure: any match of these teams can serve as a reason to remember everything that was between Fly and n0tail.
