In a recent statement, Riot Games and LVP announced that Twickenham Stadium will host the UK League of Legends Championship finals on September 1. This will be the first live event of the league since it began in February.
Twickenham Stadium is the largest dedicated rugby union venue in the world, with a capacity of 82,000 people. FACEIT have taken a liking to the stadium, holding the FACEIT Minors there in the past with FACEIT: Ignite, a Halo 3 open LAN scheduled to hold their in August. Excel Esports also have a League of Legends training facility located at the stadium.
Olia Fadeeva, Associate Product Manager at Riot UK, said: "The League of Legends European regional structure offers the clearest path to going pro. The UK is the newest territory to create this path but in just a few short months we've seen a number of teams rise through the ranks and grow their fanbase and brand. NVision Esports and Demise performed incredibly during Forge of Champions and to be able to offer them a spot in the UKLC is very exciting. These teams represent all the UKLC has to offer, an aspirational league that helps new talent shine."
The UKLC Summer Split began on July 3 with 9 teams competing for a £50,000 prize pool. The league represents LVP's attempt to promote esports in the United Kingdom.
