The Warhammer universe is living a life of rare ups and frequent downs in terms of representation in the gaming industry. 40K was flawlessly executed in the original Dawn of War and has a potential in Battlefleet Gothic Armada series, but that’s pretty much it. Fantasy Battles was blessed with Warhammer: Total War series by Creative Assembly and Left 4 Dead gameplay formula rip-offs called Vermintide, but that’s it as well.
Here’s yet another Warhammer game, which already looks trashy and has a very little chance to occupy space on your hard drive (or SSD, if you consider “hard drive” an anachronism). Warhammer Quest 2: The End Times has already hit Steam, and the user score stands at 66% right now. It’s not a complete disaster, to be honest, as the title is based on Warhammer Quest tabletop game with a solid implementation of the universe’s lore. Once again, it’s a turn-based strategy with various hero classes, dozens of types of enemies, different locations, and dungeon crawling atmosphere.
Judging by the trailer though, the animations are inspired by video games from the late 90s while the level-design reminds of a rushed student’s graduation work. Yeah, we are being roughly sarcastic, but you are about to discover that these words are close enough to the truth by viewing the gameplay trailer.
