Topanga Championship 2020 returned for the final half of the league this weekend. Beginning on March 13, the top six players on the leaderboard spent three grueling days to determine who would win the crown this year.
From Block A emerged Daigo "The Beast" Umehara, Ryo "Dogura" Nozaki, and Kawano, while Block B produced Hajime "Tokido" Taniguchi, Keita "Fuudo" Ai, and Kenryo "Mago" Hayashi. Naturally, they all fought hard, but Tokido managed to secure four wins out of five by the end of the league today, earning him the victory.
In second place is Fuudo, who pulled off three wins and two losses with 6 points to Tokido's 20. Third and fourth place went to Mago and Daigo, respectively. They also won and lost the same number of matches as Fuudo; however, they did so with -1 points (Mago) and -2 (Daigo).
Here are the complete Topanga Championship 2020 Final League standings:
# | Player | Game Record | Match Record | GD |
1. | Hajime "Tokido" Taniguchi | 4-1 | 34-14 | +20 |
2. | Keita "Fuudo" Ai | 3-2 | 31-25 | +6 |
3. | Kenryo "Mago" Hayashi | 3-2 | 35-36 | -1 |
4. | Daigo "The Beast" Umehara | 3-2 | 22-24 | -2 |
5. | Ryo "Dogura" Nozaki | 1-4 | 22-32 | -10 |
6. | Kawano | 1-4 | 21-34 | -13 |
Tokido's loss was to Mago's Karin in a set that saw a lot of back and forth. The Akuma player had six games while Mago had only three when the tables suddenly turned. Tokido lost the next five games and the entire set. If only the Karin main had begun the tournament with this level of performance, the league might have ended differently.
First-place received ¥2 million ($18,212) from a total of ¥3,350,000 ($30,505). Second-place got ¥700,000 ($6,374) and ¥350,000 ($3,187) went to third-place.
