Titanfall 3 is not in development

Two years ago, in 2017, Electronic Arts bought Respawn, and immediately assured the fans that 'the next game in the Titanfall series' is in development. Then, many have assumed that this is going to be a full-fledged sequel, but today F2P Apex Legends has become available and the story takes place in the same universe. So, the developers meant this game, as we cat tell, in the original message. 

Respawn producer Drew McCoy confirmed it in an interview with Eurogamer:

«There are some people who think there are too many battle royale games or it's a fad, the world thinks we're making Titanfall 3 and we're not – this is what we're making».

It is unclear if Titanfall 3 had ever been in development and whether its ideas were used in Apex Legends. Perhaps the studio was not satisfied with the results at an early stage of production, or the shareware model of game's distribution turned out to be more profitable for the publisher. Anyways, we should not expect one more game in this universe in the near future.
