WePlay! Dota Underlords Open Qualifiers report ⚡⚡⚡ Esports and gaming news, analytics, reviews on WePlay! The latest news on WePlay!

Hey there, we at WePlay! have a fascinating story to share. A lot of people have heard of our first open Dota Underlords tournament. The qualifiers have just ended. It was a hard, scary and also an amazing trip for us, though now we are a little bit sad because it’s all over.

The numbers don't lie:

  • 5082 participants
  • 12 hours of preparation
  • 24 hours of work on the first day
  • 24 hours on the second day
  • 20 hours on the third
  • 20 hours on the fourth
  • 16 hours on the fifth

The captain does not abandon his crew

WePlay! Head of Esports Yevgeny “GreenGT” Lukyanenko was on his duty from the very beginning to the last second, resolving extraordinary situations with players, schedules and organizational issues.

We still squeezed a comment out of him:

— The preparations were quite exciting, we were worried a lot because there were always some concerns about whether we could cope with so many participants. Fortunately, a bunch of WePlay! employees from other departments offered their help. I want to thank them and also express my gratitude and respect for our Discord channel volunteers who helped in every way to answer the questions and cope with the many situations that have arisen.

I was pleasantly surprised by how many players reacted to what happened during the tournament. They have displayed patience, respect and fair play. I understand that not everything went smoothly, but we are very pleased with the community's reaction in general. As a result, everyone gained invaluable experience in conducting such large-scale open qualifiers, and I am sure that in the future we will be able to organize even better events. Once again, I want to thank all the folks who helped and wish all the participants of the main tournament good luck and entertaining games.

What went well

In terms of the number of participants, Dota Underlords made the top five most popular open tournaments with qualifiers. We received a lot of positive feedback from participants and incredible experience in organizing and conducting such events almost entirely through manual work. Are we proud to be pioneers in Underlords? Yes, definitely. But nothing would have happened without you, so we say thank you all!

Needs to be improved

To cut the long story short, most issues we had occurred due to the high number of participants and the lack of in-game tournament-competitive system. A huge part of the organizational work was carried out manually by a small WePlay! team and several volunteers.

Next time we will try to make the participation conditions more comfortable and convenient. During the main part of WePlay! Dota Underlords Open, we hope that our viewers and the players who got there will be pleased.

The schedule for the main part:
