The unlisted Street Fighter V Season 5 patch notes ⚡⚡⚡ Esports and gaming news, analytics, reviews on WePlay! The latest news on WePlay!

Street Fighter V’s recent update came packed with a lot of changes and additions, like a secondary V-Skill for each character and the inclusion of Street Fighter III villain, Seth. It was the precursor to the upcoming Champion Edition’s release, but what we didn’t expect was all the changes that went undocumented.

Through the painstaking effort of OminousGames, we now have a list of all changes that arrived with the most recent patch. A total of 25 characters had changes made to them that weren’t listed in Capcom’s official patch notes, but the remainder were changed as advertised.

Zeku, the 38th Bushinryu Ninjutsu grandmaster received the most undocumented changes which mainly had to do with hurtboxes lingering longer after whiffing attacks. Funny enough, second-place finalist at Red Bull Kumite 2019, DC "Infexious" Coleman used Zeku extensively during the tournament. The champion, Atsushi "Fujimura" Fujimura’s Ibuki also received a few undocumented changes of her own.

It appears that Capcom wants more footsies involved in the fifth season as several attacks are now riskier to use due to extended hurtboxes. How that will translate in Season 5 and Capcom Pro Tour will have to be seen.

Here’s the list of undocumented changes:

Abigail

  • j.MK receives extra-large cross up hitbox that only hits his V-Skill 2 tire.

Alex

  • Yami Drop ability reintroduced with a new block stun to perform backdrop from a blocked Heavy Chop.

  • MK.Elbow 19f->18f startup.

  • V-Skill 1 30->50 V-Gauge (1 bar = 300).

Birdie

  • Hurtbox will no longer shrink to ‘normal character size’ during pre-jump frames.

  • Regular/V-Trigger 1 L/M/H.Bullhead will no longer cause counterhit pushback OS. However, regular EX.Bullhead still appears to do so.

Balrog

  • st.HK V-Trigger 2 Cancel buffer window increased by 7 frames before the active frame.

  • st.HK may possibly cancel into V-Trigger 1 & V-Trigger 2 on whiff.

  • Changes to All Dash Punches’charge time isn’t evident.

Cammy

  • b.MP->st.HK TC V-Trigger 2 activation and V-Trigger 2 Specials (HP+HK) now have the same cancel window as EX.Hooligan from earlier in the launch.

  • b.MP->st.HK->EX.Hooligan->Divekick Juggle Limit 0 -> 1. It can now continue a juggle combo.

  • L.Spiral Arrow ‘2nd hit’ Juggle Limit 0 -> 1. It can now continue a juggle combo.

  • V-Skill 1 no longer ‘reels back’ on frame 1, now reels back on frame 4, making it less evasive.

  • V-Trigger 2 overhead 2nd hit is now an overhead again.

  • V-Trigger 2 overhead 1st hit block stun reduced by 2f.

Chun-Li

  • st.HP extended foot Hurtbox lingers longer on recovery (7f -> 15f).

Vega

  • EX.ASE Juggle Start 0->1. It is no longer a free juggle state on hit.

Cody

  • V-Reversal recovery increased by 10f, while hit stun is reduced by 2f.

  • V-Trigger 1 cr.HP extended Hurtbox lingers for 1 frame lower than before.

Dhalsim

  • V-Trigger 2 activation 1st Hitbox changed air knockback (same as other multi-hit fireball changes).

  • V-Trigger 2 activation 1st Hitbox increased hitstun advantage on grounded hit.

Ed

  • st.HP (when held) 1st active frame given more Hitfreeze. HitFreeze is introduced as a visual tell when he is able to get a grounded conversion.

  • PP Throw Hurtbox corrected to be standing when Ed ‘stands up’ (vulnerable to standing only throws in this startup)

  • V-Trigger 1 blockstun increased by 1f. That’s +1 more advantage on block.

Falke

  • PP/PPP 1st hit active frames 2->3 (now has Hitbox during the entire active part, instead of a pause betweenthe first and second hit). This extra active frame is applied to PP, cancel PP, and PPP, but not cancel PPP.

F.A.N.G

  • EX.Sotoja (dash punch) reduced recovery by 1f. That is +1 more advantage on hit/cancel and block).

G

  • cr.HP Hitbox reduced by 1 square behind him.

  • EX/level 3/V-Trigger 1 fireball can now cancel into taunt during projectile Hitbox. It has the same cancel window as V-Skill 2.

Ibuki

  • EX.Air Kunai reduced advantage on block by 2f. That is -2 less advantage on block.

  • EX.Air Kunai seemingly no longer causes more Hitfreeze on block than it does on hit.

Kage

  • EX.Air FB initial range is now reduced by 0.4 squares.

  • V-Trigger 2 HP+HK startup reduced by 3f.

Karin

  • j.HP strike-only Hurtbox under Karin reduced vertically by 1 square during active frame.

  • j.HK strike-only Hurtbox under Karin reduced vertically by 1 square during active frames.

Ken

  • st.HP will no longer counter hit pushback OS.

  • EX.DP will no longer cancel into V-Trigger 2 during the second Shoryuken.

Kolin

  • • L.Parry on hit recovery reduced by 1f. That is +1 more advantage.

  • • EX (L+M) Parry on hit recovery increased by 4f. That is -4 advantage, which is now the same as regular low parry.

Laura

  • st.HP can no longer Counter hit pushback OS.

  • j.HP strike-only Hurtbox below her reduced 2 squares vertically.

  • j.HK strike-only Hurtbox below her reduced 2.5 squares.

  • Regular/V-Trigger 1 L.Elbow initial speed increased for better juggling.

  • Regular/V-Trigger 1 L.Elbow speed altered, while the second and third active frame have the same range.

Lucia

  • V-Trigger 1 Fireball->LK/MK/HK V-Duration consumption 700->400. Note that V-Trigger 1 is 3000 V-Duration.

Nash

  • V-Skill 1 is forcibly +5 on hit, with recovery changing based on active frame. Note that recovery does not seem to be increased.

  • V-Trigger 1 ground dash Hurtbox moves into place faster.

Necalli

  • EX.Dash Punch second to last Hitbox pushback on hit reduced by 1 square, making it fall out less often.

Poison

  • EX.Down whip will no longer cancel to V-Trigger 1/V-Trigger 2 activation or specials during the first 3 Hitboxes, but may cause an OS.

  • EX.Down whip on Whiff Hitbox height reduced by 5 squares, making it much easier to jump in on if the first hit misses.

  • EX.Down whip recovery on hit increased by 1f.

  • Critical Art Hitbox added to hit crouchers with a much shorter range. That’s 11 squares in front of Poison.

Zangief

  • st.MP xx V-Trigger 1 startup 22f->19f.

  • Regular/V-Trigger 1 V-Skill 1 Buffer window extended earlier by 10f. This makes it easier to cancel into backdash or V-Skill 1->Walk as early as possible.

Zeku

  • Old - Hurtbox is no longer thinner when turning around.

  • Young - Hurtbox is no longer thinner when turning around.

  • Young - st.LK Hozanto has a second cancel window added. It looks like a bug since it doesn’t functionally change anything.

  • Young - st.HP extended low Hurtbox lingers longer after active frames 2f->16f.

  • Young - st.HP extended Hurtbox placed at standing punch height for 7f near the end of the move’s recovery.

  • st.HP->st.HP Target Combo now has an extended Hurtbox after active frames 0f->14f. It extends Hurtbox by 2.5 squares.

  • cr.HP->cr.HP Target Combo blockstun reduced by 4f. That is -4 on block/cancel and -10-> -14 on block.

  • cr.HP->cr.HP TC pushback on block is now reduced by 1 square.

  • H.Hozanto will no longer receive Counter Hit on trade.

  • All versions of Command Air grab on whiff will now have recovery when landing.
