All men are waiting for this day annually - some with patience, some with fear, and others with excitement in expectation for a moment when he finally may congratulate his closest women. And we are joining all the compliments of the day and want to wish all women in the world to be loved, heard, and been taken care not during International Women's Day but every day.

Our celebration will be spiced with a squad of the most memorable and strongest female characters in games. Here and throughout the article, we won't show you any significant spoilers, only the description of the personality of the characters, so not to spoil the expectations from the games in case you want to try playing them.

Aloy (Horizon Zero Dawn)

The brave, curious, and powerful girl who was bold enough to make her complicated way to the truth and justice alone during the game. The wise young woman had no fear to fight against huge monstrous machines and succeed. As the creators told, her traits were combined from Sarah Connor's (Terminator), Ygritte's (Game of Thrones), and Amanda Ripley's (Alien) characteristics. Hunter at heart, the "amazonian" from Nora Brave became the perfect example of a strong female character in games.

Ellie (The Last of Us)

A teenager born and raised as an orphan in a post-apocalypse environment simply cannot be weak by default. Danger awaits her not only around every corner in the face of mutated zombie people but also in uninfected people who are fighting for survival and the necessary supplies.

Events that fully reveal Ellie's personality are described in The Last of Us: American Dreams comic book, but the story in the game is enough for the player to understand that the girl has the inner power, stubbornness, and dedication that not any adult has. 

Having not the simplest past and no less light and foggy future, Ellie does not lose faith in people. She was betrayed and tried to kill more than once, but she has enough strength to fight for justice and be able to stand up for herself — the perfect example of a strong girl.

Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)

Another female orphan that has a complicated life story. But on the contrary, Lara is more open in communication than Ellie. Ms. Croft lives in an ordinary world with a lot of mystery and hidden treasures. She has friends who help her on the way, but Lara has to deal with the majority of the danger and obstacles on her own. Strength not only inside but in terms of her muscles and agility help her to overcome all the tops to complete her ambitious plans.

Lara always has a curious mind and a passion for adventures. Whenever she's in an ocean storm or at a high peak of a mountain, or there is a need for food on a desert island - she has no fear. Lara goes and takes what's hers (and even things that not truly hers, but she wants it ...anyway, who cares? It's a game).

Dota 2 female characters

There are twenty female heroes in Dota 2 pool. Each of them is a unique creature with a lot of abilities, power, and fascinating lore. You can't argue that meeting with the only one from the roster is dangerous for your life, especially if she's on a core position and played by a pro-player from, for example, Team Nigma or Team Secret.

"They'll never find your grave," "Burn, baby, burn" or "Guess you didn't know a little game of freeze tag could turn lethal" - aren't these phrases of beautiful ladies scary enough? Amicia (A Plague Tale: Innocence)

Amicia is a little lady, well-mannered by a respected, wealthy family, very well-read and erudite. She knows how to ride a horse and accurately shoot with a bow. The terrible events entailed a difficult share for the brave heroine and her little brother. They have to hide from their pursuers, survive under challenging conditions, and confront enemies. To cope with the heavy burden that has landed on the shoulders of a young girl, one needs extraordinary strength, perseverance, as well as agility and the ability to remain invisible to evade enemies.

Senua (Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice)

The key is in the title of the game - "sacrifice" and during the game. The plot is complicated and scary, so as the fate of a brave woman full of confidence, dignity, and honor, who's trying to reach the mysterious destination through the danger. It's hard to imagine what she's been through and what's expected her further. However, we had to pay attention to this strong female character in our article. The trials that Senua has to experience show her stamina, fortitude, and courage. Jesse Faden (Control)

Jesse is a powerful woman with paranormal abilities, and now she's the Director of the Federal Bureau of Control. She has a complicated past - her brother was kidnapped, and all adults from her home town disappeared by her single wish. Now Jesse has to fight with what's unseen. With the help of her telekinetic powers and levitation, she struggles against strange forces, showing her dedication to sort out what's happened in the Oldest House and find her brother.

Claire Redfield (Resident Evil)

Zombies, imminent threat, and lack of ammo - only strong people can survive in such conditions. Tiny but brave woman, Claire has enough courage to confront the danger and solve life puzzles to find the way out of a nightmare. Her unusual interest in motorcycle customization and the ability to use various weapons that brother taught her shows that she not that simple but also very smart and versatile.

Alyx Vance (Half-Life)

As the other characters in our material, Alyx had a problematic life way, too. She lost her mother and almost died. Raised only by her father, Alyx became very helpful, kind, and resistant to any difficulties. During two game parts, she was put at risk not once and lost a lot. But Alyx has a purpose so that no one can stop her. At the same time, she is sensitive, kind, and friendly to people, and also has a good sense of humor.

Fragile (Death Stranding)

One significant scene in the game shows all her inner power and willingness to self-sacrifice to prevent the massive catastrophe. As we said, there will be no spoilers, but those who already completed the game know, how strong and infinitely smart this woman is. Fragile has paranormal powers, as many in the world of the game, but her emotions are controlled and accurate. She's always there to help the main character, even if it puts her life at risk.

Elizabeth (Bioshock: Infinite)

Even if you've never played any game, you may have seen various cosplays on this beautiful female character with the constant cigarette in her hands. A peculiar "Rapunzel" with dark hair was imprisoned in the tower of a mysterious cloud town. Elizabeth has various supernatural powers. Since Elizabeth spent so many years alone, sheltered from both positive and negative impacts of the world around her, she remained a child who did not know what cruelty is. However, when it is necessary, as befits a strong personality, a girl can act very decisively and boldly.

Overwatch female heroes

Similar to Dota 2 female characters, heroines from this game are strong in their own way, self-sustaining and wise women. Each of the fourteenth heroes has unique and helpful skills, which are necessary to win. If you ever want to dive deep in the lore of each character, be prepared - there are tons of videos, comics, and fan-movies with these strong women, showing their power, courage, and intellect.

Bayonetta

Do not be fooled by the attractive appearance of this strong heroine - Bayonetta is an ancient witch, whose age is more than 500 years. Being a child of "Romeo and Juliet" of the old witch times, she became a woman of a war between clans - all her life is to fight against forces.

Depending on the situation, she can change her appearance, turning into a dangerous beast, including a deadly and graceful panther. Throughout the game, Bayonetta appears to be a reasonably calm, confident, and restrained lady. But she doesn't like children, and also use demons for her purposes, kill angels and easily copes with both firearms, many other weapons, and with magic.

Yennefer of Venderberg

Yennefer is beloved of Geralt of Rivia, the stepmother of Ciri and a talented witch. Like many sorceresses, Yennefer is endowed with a complicated, and sometimes merely unbearable character.
