The first Major of the online Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament circuit, The Quarantine Series, was an exciting affair, featuring some of the best players from around the world in a 32-player event.

The Quarantine Series is a four-month tournament circuit that’s split into two types of online events, Minors and Majors. The Minors are free-to-enter open brackets that will allow all skillful players to accumulate points to secure their place in the Majors. The Majors are invitational events that will have players that accumulated enough points in the Minors join invited top-tier players in a high-stakes tournament.

The first Major had big-name players like Leonardo “MkLeo” Lopez Perez, Samuel "Dabuz" Buzby, Eric "ESAM" Lew, and Tyler "Marss" Martins in attendance. They all fought for their share of a $10,000 prize pool. The Minors feature a $5,000 pot while the grand finale, depending on contributions from sponsors, could feature a prize pool of up to $50,000.

Here’s the top 8 standings for The Quarantine Series’ first Major:

  • 1. Kolawole “Kola” Aideyan
  • 2. SSG|Enrique “Maister” Hernandez
  • 3. NRG|Nairoby “Nairo” Quezada
  • 4. Armada|Spencer “BestNess” Garner
  • 5. CLG|James “VoiD” Makekau-Tyson
  • 5. TG|Jestise “MVD” Negron
  • 7. eU|Ezra “Samsora” Morris
  • 7. T1|Leonardo “MkLeo” Lopez Perez

The Quarantine Series is an initiative by Charlie "MoistCr1tikal" White and Jacob "Alpharad" Rabon IV to give the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate community an alternative to the canceled Smash World Tour and other live events. This way, players can still compete while preventing the spread of COVID-19 by staying at home.

The organizers promise even more events and excitement to come over the course of the next few months.
