The brand new Metro Exodus trailer tells us a complete story. In the video, Artyom moves between locations and relives a very unpleasant memory. What's more interesting, this video may indicate the return of the Dark Ones — intelligent mutants, who played a key role in the first two games of the series.
SPOILERS TO PREVIOUS PARTS
The Dark Ones were represented as main antagonists in Metro 2033, but in the game's final act it turned out that the telepathic attacks (that they used to suppress metro inhabitants) were just a way of communicating. Let's not dig deep into the plot, but it's worth noting that, due to Russian post-apocalypse genre traditions, the bad ending has become canonical for the next game of the series, Metro: Last Light.
The child from the trailer looks like a Dark One who accompanied Artyom in the second game. Whispers and supernatural stuff in the frame also indicate this. Perhaps the nightmare is sent from outside.
Or it's all a dog's dream. In any case, we will find out very soon. The game is released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One in 9 days, February 15.
