The recent report by the Anti-Defamation League group indicates that the majority of online players have been the victims of harassment in games. That’s actually something we’ve all known for years, but it’s nice to have an official confirmation that most of us are victims.
Speaking of exact numbers, 74% of those acquainted with online multiplayer in video games have been harassed in various ways, and 65% of respondents have even claimed that the aggressive behaviour towards them included threats to their health and lives. These are just several examples, but the whole picture includes racial slurs, various intolerance, etc. It is worth noting that ADL gathered the responses from just a thousand of people, which means that the results might turn out inaccurate on a larger scale. Still, the numbers are worrying. Judging by the information shared by the respondents, the uncontrollable online harassment includes all the possible topics you could’ve imagined.
The detailed report is available through this link if you are interested, although a relatively short summary will work just as fine. The most interesting bit is that Dota 2 occupies the top position in terms of players harassed – 79% of respondents. PUBG, LoL, and Overwatch took the 2nd place with 75%.
