We knew nothing at all about The Last of Us Part II multiplayer ever since the game was announced. Developers were purely concentrated on plot details. But, as always in the year ̶2̶0̶1̶8̶ 2019 — a leak has appeared, showing some quite interesting information about the game's multiplayer mode. Blame (or thank) Naughty Dog's vacancy description on LinkedIn for a multiplayer server programmer at a company.
So, as written above, we have player's character customization and more cosmetic items in the in-game store that cost real currency. We've seen a similar situation in Uncharted 4.
This and few other vacancies let us suggest, that the game's multiplayer mode will use dedicated servers instead of p2p.
Typically, Naughty Dog does not reveal their major projects' multiplayer details at gameshows but announce them just before the release, so we have to wait a little longer.
