OG choose to take a break after claiming the Aegis of Champions

The new Dota Pro Circuit season 2018-2019 is just around the corner, with closed qualifiers starting next week. Although most top-performing teams have already been invited to compete, OG, the champions of The International 2018, are not featured on the competitor list.

PGL, the organizers of the Kuala Lumpur Major, have confirmed on Twitter they had reached out to OG, who declined the invitation. Mere hours later Jesse ‘JerAx’ Vainikka confirmed in a tweet OG would not participate in the upcoming tournament, stating the team are taking some time off to engage in activities other than Dota. Johan ‘n0tail’ Sundstein cited the same reason during one of his streams.

It has been reported that OG were not the only team to consider sitting out the KL event. Matthew Bailey, Team Secret’s Dota2 manager stated in a recent tweet that the second season of DPC is ‘starting way too soon’ and the champions of TI should get a direct seed to the first major, as opposed to having to fight their way through qualifiers.

A total of 16 teams from various regions are set to fight for points and their share of $1 million at the start of November. Read about the upcoming changes to the 2018-2019 DPC season on Dota2’s official blog.
