Introduction
Dota 2 is one of the most interesting and hard games in the world. Even though it has been around for nearly 10 years now, there are still many new players on a daily basis that have one hard job - to learn what each hero does. Although this seems like an easy thing to do, that’s not really the case. There are over 120 heroes and items to choose from and each of them is unique, which is why it might seem very hard at first. However, once you learn the basics, Dota 2 will seem a lot easier.
With that said, let’s continue our in-depth hero overview with yet another amazing hero - Medusa. She is often referred to as one of the “hardest” carries in Dota 2 because there is a point where this hero becomes pretty much immortal.
If that got you interested, let’s take a look and see what can we expect from one of the strongest late game heroes in Dota 2.

Basic information about Medusa
Despite the fact that the hero shines the most when is played as a carry, there are many players who prefer this hero to play mid. Unlike other hard carries, Medusa is actually pretty strong against other mid laners thanks to her second ability.
As we mentioned above, this ranged agility hero is capable of becoming a late-game monster when she gets the right items. Apart from being tanky AF, this hero has the ability to hit multiple units at once, which makes her incredibly strong during team fights.
With that said, let’s take a look at her abilities and what can we expect from them:
- Split Shot is the spell that allows Medusa to farm at the speed of light, which is very important, especially for late-game carries. Although it might seem a little useless at first, Split Shot is very important to hit your timings right. After all, every single hard carry is strong whenever it hits a certain timing with its items.
- Mystic Snake is the ability that makes the life of every mid laner a living hell. Apart from the initial damage, this spell has an amazing stacking ability that basically increases the damage of each bounce of the snake. In other words, the last target that Medusa hits with her spell will do tons of damage.
However, it doesn’t stop there. Not only does this spell do tremendous amounts of damage but it also steals mana from the target and gives it back to medusa. This might seem a little bit dull at first but it does wonders during the later stages of the game. - Mana Shield is the spell that makes this hero one of the scariest late-game monsters. As the name suggests, this ability summons a shield around Medusa that absorbs a portion of the incoming damage at the cost of her mana. Needless to say, this can be incredibly broken, especially when she gets a lot of mana. Apart from items, this hero can also get mana from her talents.
- Last, but not least, we have one of the most iconic ultimates in the game - Stone Gaze. This ultimate perfectly fits the lore of the hero in Greek mythology. Similar to it, it turns the units that are watching at Medusa into stones for a few seconds. During that time, the heroes receive more physical damage, which means that medusa can easily rip through them like a knife through butter.
Counters and Items
Every single item that is usually bought on heroes such as Medusa will do the job here. This includes Money King Bar, Mjollnir, Butterfly, Daedalus, and more. Perhaps the best item for Medusa is a Linkin Sphere because it provides her with one extra layer of protection. Of course, let’s not forget about the mana regeneration which is also a huge plus.
As for counters, every single hero that has the potential to burn mana is a nightmare to deal with. That’s why the biggest counter for Medusa is and will always be Anti-Mage. He can easily ruin the game for Medusa, so always try to avoid him whenever you want to play this hero.
Another very popular choice versus Medusa is Sniper. He has tons of range which means that he can stay back and burst through the Mana shield.
